Will music files slow down my computer? How to prevent this from happening?

I am computer retarded. Please keep that in mind when answering this question! I have a Dell Inspiron, Windows 7. I have about 6,000 songs, and I’m worried about it slowing down my computer. Is there a way to prevent this? Thanks!
Oh, and I like to use iTunes to organize the music. I need something that will allow me to keep them organized.
