Will itunes and music slow down my laptop?

I’ve got a sony vaio CS11S/P and i’ve literally have nothing downloaded on it except for msn and the internet.. so it’s really fast at the minute..
i use my brothers laptop to update my iphone and ipod.. but its starting to get annoying

will installing itunes and getting all the music on my laptop slow it down alot? i’m also thinking about possibly storing my music on a harddrive?
