I do my homework listening to music that I don’t understand the languages. I was wondering if you think you are more concentrated than listening to music with lyrics you understand? I also, listen to classical music, but let’s put that aside.

Well, I changed it up, yes. Sometimes I listen to radios on iTunes and other times I just make a playlist of a bunch of songs I know. I think you’re right, though, the main thing is to prevent yourself from singing or craving to grab my instruments a jam to the song. haha

Do you like munching on snacks while you’re reading, or listening to music? I’m not sure, since some people like eating while reading, and others find music too distracting, or don’t like crumbs on their pages.

For me, when I’m reading those monotonous texts for school, I actually find it easier for me to concentrate by listening to music, chewing gum, or eating a granola bar. But most often when I’m free reading I’ll just have coffee and fries around, because…I can.

Hi – I’ve started studying for the Junior Cert in the last few weeks (state exam – 10 subjects, bleh, in Ireland) and I’ve been looking up study tips. Everywhere I’ve read, I’m seeing ‘DO NOT listen to music’. I always listen to my iPod while I’m studying…nothing too big, easy listening stuff like Explosions in the Sky (<3) and maybe Regina Spektor/Lisa Mitchell. I do it because tbh it keeps me occupied and I don’t get tempted to get up and walk around and do stuff. I wouldn’t say it helps me with recalling information – just to actually keep at it.
I haven’t had a chance to test out if this is actually working or not…For class tests it’s usually just cram, cram, cram…I guess I’ll know when I have my mocks in February.
But for now – should I be listening to music while studying? Is it a bad idea? =/
