There is this one town that I know of, lots of minorities live there. Its a poor area. For entertainment they always are promoting hip hop dj’s , and gangster/pimp and ho themed parties.

Then there is this other town I know of. It is very affluent. Its filled with alot of older people with lots of money. The bars there which are referred to as lounges since they are more upscale always are having piano singers and jazz for entertainment.

Why do these towns choose such different choices of music and themes for their parties?

I’m looking to become a piano player in a restaurant /wine bar or cafe… I am at a very high level and usually play light music or jazz. However I am now looking to extent my repertoire. Any suggestions for some good (but not too easy) jazzy background pieces?

You know what I mean, the kind of jazz they play in bars and restaurants. The piano part is the most important. Does anyone know good artists, or a subgenre of jazz that’s mostly calm and piano-y?

How can I learn more about jazz music?

I recently started to listen to jazz on the radio, and I find myself enjoying it a lot. It is the perfect mix between easy listening and sensory stimulation. The thing is, all the songs just blend into one for me, because I have no idea what I am hearing. So:

-Where can I learn more about jazz?
-What bands should I listen to?
-What types of things should I be listening for in the music?

Thanks!

Music Suggestions : Broadening The Horizons?

Hey (… I’m new)

I’m on the look out for some new artists / bands / albums / tracks to add to my ever expanding library, and was hoping for some suggestions.

I have a fairly wide range of taste. My interests are mainly in Rock, 60′s/70′s/90′s Brit-pop, Old School Rap, Ska, Reggae, and Classical music.

Suggestions don’t NEED to be confined to these genre’s though (still welcome), so just put any suggestions you have down, be it from Motown to Film Scores, Country to Hip-Hop, Sub-Saharan African to Dub-step, World music to Pop music, Easy Listening to Jazz… etc. Or anything, even if is just utterly crazy.

If there is a particular track or album worth listening to, please don’t be afraid to specify so i can indulge in the best of your suggestions.

Much appreciated, and i look forward to what you guys have to offer!

Recently started listening to Owl City. Love them. I also listen to smooth jazz like Dave Koz. Anyone know of any other bands that are just like…slow and easy listenin. Stuff that puts you in a relaxing mood.

I’m planning a visit to Cape Town and would like to check out some local music before I go. What are some popular groups these days?

Are there any that good jazz or rock bands that are uniquely South African?

    Hi everyone!

I was wondering if anyone knew of a restaurant or bar in the Atlanta area that features Frank Sinatra-esque or Jazz live music? If there’s dancing (slow easy dancing) allowed that’s even better!

    Thanks!
